Committee Descriptions and Details
Costumes- Helping to organize, design, fit, and sew awesome costumes for the kids to shine in on stage. Need to be available to help on some planned Friday evenings and Saturdays as well as tech week to work with a team on site, but some small at home projects may also be needed. Expected to create an experience with the kids that encourages a positive body image and an overall excitement for their role, volunteers for this committee should be able to work well with children in a small group setting. No experience with sewing machines required. Background checks required for this volunteer position. Some-what social volunteer position (small group). Estimated total hours: 20-40 depending on show over 10 weeks
Hair and make-up- Designing hair and makeup styles and helping to get the kids stage ready before and during the shows. Need to be available to meet with your team on a couple of Fridays or Saturdays to practice and plan. However, most time will be spent during tech week and showtime on site. May be asked to help aid other committees on shows with less makeup and hair needs during the pre-show time commitment. Expected to create an experience with the kids that encourages a positive self image and an overall excitement for their role, volunteers for this committee should be able to work well with children in a small group setting. Background check required for this volunteer position. Some-what social volunteer position (small group). Estimated total hours: 10-15 hours over 10 weeks within this committee and up to 10 hours possible within another committee during normal rehearsal time.
Set Construction/ Ninja Bouncers :)- Creating amazing set pieces out of mere wood, nails, and foam board to make a safe and sturdy set/ creating a safe and secure environment for the kids by working backstage during shows to move set pieces and to keep anyone who is not certified as background checked out of the backstage area. This committee meets at the warehouse on most Saturdays while the students are rehearsing and must be available during most of tech week and showtimes. The warehouse is in Goldvein, VA near stafford- about 20 minutes from the rehearsal space. Background checks required for this volunteer position.Carpooling available. No experience with power tools required, but you will be taught on site. Some-what social volunteer position (small group). Estimated total hours: 40 hours over 10 weeks.
Set Dressing - Priming, painting, detailing and adding all the faux construction to the set pieces. This committee meets at the warehouse on most Saturdays while the students are rehearsing and must be available during most of tech week and showtimes. The warehouse is in Goldvein, VA near Stafford- about 20 minutes from the rehearsal space. Background checks required for this volunteer position as many will become backstage ninjas during showtime. All levels of painting are needed (you do not need to be a detail painter in order to help on this committee). Some-what social volunteer position (small group). Estimated total hours: 40 hours over 10 weeks
Props- Finding and creating the movable parts of the show. Need to be available to meet with your team on a couple of Fridays or Saturdays to discuss props list and plan. However, most time will be spent during tech week and showtime on site. Most work is done at home during rehearsal weeks for this committee. Creativity and experience in thrift shopping is preferred. Must have experience with a glue gun 🙂 . Some parents from this committee will remain as prop ninjas backstage to assist kids in retrieving, organizing, and resetting their props during the shows. Parents asked to be ninjas during showtime will be required to have a background check completed. (Lower social interaction position) Estimated total hours: 20 hours over 10 weeks
Fundraising and Publicity/House- Planning the layout of the playbill and networking to spread the good news about our show to the community, gain sponsors for the playbill, t-shirts etc, and putting up flyers in the community so the kids can experience a full audience to perform for as well as helping to set up raffle items during the show in order to raise funds to pay for the Aspire production. During the showtime some volunteers in this committee will be asked to help set up fundraising opportunities for the show, welcome patrons to the show, hand out playbills, and direct people to their seats when needed. Need to be available to meet with your team on a couple of Fridays or Saturdays to discuss playbill details and plan goals. However, most time will be spent out in the community networking and during tech week/ showtime on site. Most work is done at home or out in the community for this committee. (Highly social position) Estimated total hours: 20-25 hours over 10 weeks
Green room- Checking students into and out of rehearsal to be sure everyone is accounted for, contacting parents if students are in need of medical care, carpooling confirmation, or if they need to speak with a parent. The parents in this committee are also expected to aid in entertaining students who are on break in order to keep them safe and mostly quiet 🙂 during their breaks at rehearsal while others work. Volunteers in this committee must have availability on most Fridays and Saturdays as well as tech week and show nights as this will be shared among multiple parents and solely when students are present. Background checks required for this volunteer position. (Highly social position) Estimated total hours: 30-40 depending on the number of committee volunteers allotted to share time over 10 weeks.
